Everyone is welcome to join us for book club—no pressure to finish the book. Come as you are and show up on the dates below. That said, we will be discussing the plot, themes, and characters, so there may be spoilers.
We value everyone’s time and want each gathering to feel meaningful, so we encourage thoughtful conversation. Bring your questions, reactions, theories, or favorite quotes, but if you’d rather simply listen and soak it in, that’s perfectly welcome too.
Our book club has a twist (and not just the plot kind): each story gets its own curated wine list based on its characters and storyline—because fictional people deserve a perfect pour, too.
We'd be delighted to have you with us!
In Washington State’s Red Mountain wine country, Otis and Rebecca’s bond was one for the ages. Now older, and reflecting on his blessings and his losses, Otis is moved to write down the love story of their lives.
At Woodstock in 1969, two lost souls with big hearts and boundless dreams see the future and all its possibilities in each other’s eyes. Before the music is even over, Otis is thunderstruck by the liberating Rebecca, so much so that he’s suddenly questioning his attendance at Berkeley and decision to follow in his father’s footsteps as a journalist. When he first sets eyes on the vineyards of Sonoma, where Rebecca is from, the captivating idea of a life in wine further mars his path. Would it be so crazy to chase a dream? Impulsively married, unquestionably devoted, Otis and Rebecca are thirsty to see what happens next—wherever it takes them and no matter how hard it gets.
Over the decades, from Sonoma to the delightfully eccentric community of Red Mountain, Otis and Rebecca fight against all odds to work their way to the top of the wine world. But neither of them could have imagined the darkness to come, or what it will take to find a spark of light once again.
Join us to discuss the books with the authors!!
We are thrilled to have our very first book club author, Allison Larkin, join us again via Zoom to discuss her newest novel, "Home of the American Circus" that has roots in Maine!
After an emergency leaves her short on rent, thirty-year-old Freya Arnalds bails on her lackluster life as bartender in Maine and returns to her suburban hometown of Somers, New York, to live in the house she inherited from her estranged parents. Despite attempts to lay low, Freya encounters childhood friends, familial enemies, and old flames—as well as her fifteen-year-old niece, Aubrey, who is secretly living in the derelict home. As they reconnect, Freya and Aubrey lean on each other, working to restore the house and come to terms with the devastating events that pulled them apart years ago.
Set in the birthplace of the American circus, this deeply moving novel is an exploration of broken families, the weight of the past, and the complicated journey of finding home.
One of our favorite local authors Albert Waitt, will be joining us in person to talk about the second in his mystery trilogy about Chief LT Nichols, "Flood Tide" that takes place right here in our town!
(If you are new to this series, his first book is called The Ruins of Woodman's Village.)
The rocky shore of Stage Island captures a body drifting in the outgoing tide of a new moon. LT Nichols, Laurel, Maine’s chief of police, discovers that it’s the son of Laurel’s most noteworthy summer resident, Randolph Grimes, the sitting US Secretary of Commerce. The case is deemed too big for the small-town Nichols. A United States marshal is flown in from Washington. When she arrests one of Laurel’s native sons for murder, Nichols has his doubts. He launches his own investigation. A host of federal agents line up to shut him down. That’s when the real trouble starts.
Our last month of our "Winter Author Series" bring us another local author, Jennifer Comeau! In celebration of St. Patrick's Day and National Women's Month, this book will take us to Ireland to honor the story of Morrigan Lane.
In the wild heart of 1820s Ireland, young Morrigan Lane hears the sea's call—and her ancestors' ancient voices. Born with a connection to the mystical lands of her Celtic heritage, Morrigan is no ordinary girl. She dreams of adventure, breaking free from the restrictions of village life, and, above all, sailing beyond the distant horizon.
But Morrigan finds herself pulled into a mysterious journey when a haunting vision of the Irish sea god, Manannán mac Lir, beckons her into his shadowy world. Against the backdrop of Ireland's rugged cliffs and ancient stone circles, she must navigate myth and reality, confronting age-old traditions, family secrets, and the fierce expectations placed upon her as a young woman.
